Easy Wins for the New Year in e-Commerce

ID-100404329With the new year, we feel renewed energy, vigour, and ready to tackle new and exciting projects head on and do all the things we didn’t end up doing last year. But this feeling is short-lived, as we can tell from the already dwindling numbers at the gym. We get it – it’s hard to maintain that level of enthusiasm. Getting back to work after the holidays means getting back into a routine – catching up on emails, customers, partners, dealers, updating processes, and more. But January doesn’t have to be the month of big things but of simplifying instead. Completing lots of little things can be more satisfying and more impactful overall in your e-Commerce business.

Start your year off right. Brainstorm about ways to simplify and get those easy wins in your e-Commerce business. Get into the habit of meeting and exceeding your goals. While they are small steps, they are steps forward in the in the right direction. Sometimes, we gather so many tips and tricks. It can be worth it to sit down and really figure out what’s working, what’s not, and ways to change it. Here are 2 suggestions to go about it:

    1. Rule of 3 – Easy as 123. Things in 3 are easy to remember and thus, implement. This can be applied broadly to your e-Commerce strategy or used to supplement content creation, customer relationship management, and more. For example, the FAB approach is a variation of the Rule of 3 where FAB stands for features, advantages, benefits, helping you create content that better serves your customers.
    2. Find your focus – Dedicate effort there instead of scattering it among many directions. Be the master and expert in your particular niche instead of trying to be a Jack/Jill of all trades. Simplify by making sure all your efforts and business goals are aligned, your teams are meshing, and everyone is on the same, clearly laid out page.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

Make sure you’re utilizing all your features to your best ability. Reach out to your NAV partner or whoever implemented your solution for a refresher in training or for general help in upgrades and customizations. Upgrades and customizations may seem counter-intuitive to an “easy win” for your business, but it can decrease the effort and workarounds and makes your e-Commerce solution more powerful and equipped to handle future challenges. Here are some other “easy wins” to tackle regarding features you already use on your site:

  • Update upsell and cross sell items with your new products or create new pairings to increase visibility
  • Implement creative new coupons or find ways to foster loyalty to keep customers coming back and keep them happy
  • Add new content where appropriate and refreshing old product descriptions to make it more informative and engaging
  • Consider giving the website a fresh new look. This can be achieved without a huge overhaul and effort and resources expended with Nav-to-Net™ customer-managed stylesheets. You don’t have to go as far as a redesign because little things can change up the look and feel and make it seem fresh and exciting. Show customers something new instead of being stagnant.
  • Resolve to make your website responsive (if you haven’t already) and be sure you’re mindful of how your content will appear on a smaller screen. Read more here.
