Rising to the Content Management Challenge

Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV-related Concerns and How It Affects eCommerce

NTN7 Item DescriptionDigital Vantage Point specifically caters to companies using Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV (formerly Navision). We build for Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV exclusively using our deep understanding of the NAV system to provide you with the best e-Commerce platform that suits your needs.

We take customer concerns about e-Commerce and NAV and address them specifically.

To start off this series, we’re starting off the content management challenge.

Background Information:

Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV is a powerful yet simple to use global ERP system. You can run your business efficiently with tools for financial management, supply chain management, project management, and business intelligence and reporting.

We use the fact that Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV and Microsoft Office are familiar systems to you. Integration is one of our highest priorities as we believe this is the core of a successful solution.

Nav-to-Net™ is the webshop right inside Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV. The all-in-NAV user interface means your experience is always connected. It’s seamlessly integrated because it’s inside the NAV ecosystem, working in harmony with all other business processes.

This is a good foundation, but there are a few things that we added to our solution to ease pain points. Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV does it well, but we made it better.

Content Management Challenges

Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV is not inherently a content management environment. As a financial system, its primary focus is on managing financial data, customer information, pricing, product costs, and various ERP data. However great all of this is, it cannot format text. Up until the most current Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV system, there was no support for unicode and could only process one language at a time.

What We’ve Done:

The Multi-Line Text Box Tool is an add-on within the NAV client that enables extensive content formatting, editing, and unicode capabilities. It has all that a website needs while storing everything in NAV. There will be real-time synchronization, WYSIWYG editing, and seamless integration between NAV and your website. There is no need for extensive or fancy HTML coding to make it look how you want. It’s user-friendly and manageable by typical business users. When you save time and minimize errors, you can focus on other areas of your business.

What about image and file management?

Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV is a bit limited in this respect. Done incorrectly, all your files and images (which can be a lot if you have an extensive product range) could be stored within the database. Now this may not seem like a problem, because after all, what is a database for if not for storage? It becomes a problem when it grows more than it needs to, taking up valuable space, making it more difficult to back-up. (You are backing up, yes?)

What We’ve Done:

The add-on we’ve created solves this particular challenge and takes the load off the system. Your system will have optimized performance. This is also due to good integration. When management systems are well maintained, there will be better synchronization between the webshop and NAV. We won’t have to worry about errors, lagging, or adding strain your system; it runs the way it should.

You will be able to find things quickly and easily. When you manage large amounts of information, like an extensive product line, all within Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV, it enhances business productivity.

When Nav-to-Net™ integrates your webshop with Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV seamlessly, the result is optimized performance and excellent user experience. Not only is it more convenient for you as a user but your webshop and your customers will benefit.
