Risk vs. Reward

ID-100165262Shopping for an e-Commerce solution for a business can be a daunting task. With so many factors to consider, we wonder if we’re making the right choice. This is no cheap endeavour so the question that weighs heavily on many minds is: Is the risk worth the reward?

We can’t answer this question for your specific business but let us try and put things into perspective based on our own experiences. We’ve met with many clients to discuss their business needs. We scope and make assessments, and chat with them to see what their goals are, what they want, and what we can give them based on this information.

Sometimes, however, the expectations are too lofty. Some very successful e-Commerce companies may serve as an inspiration. They want that one particular nifty feature that appears to give them an edge. They look at the whole of the website, with all the bells and whistles, and they want that too.

What they don’t realize is that some of these companies have an e-Commerce budget that is probably what some companies make in an entire year. They’re on a completely different level. The amount of effort, time, and money involved in achieving that “dream website” could possibly exceed the reward.

We have to really think and break it down – is that ONE feature really worth all that money?

As a company, we’re not afraid to say “No” if what you want deviates greatly from your budget or we see that it doesn’t make any sense. An e-Commerce solution should be aligned with business objectives and not just thought of as a pretty webshop. We also make sure things are working optimally in the background, something often overlooked, while ensuring the front-end webshop looks great. We evaluate goals and options, and together we can come up with the best solution.

Our e-Commerce platform comes with many features right out of the box. But in the end, it’s not the fact that we have all these features to offer; it’s about what these features represent. They mean options and reliable service for your customers and smooth integration resulting in the best experience for both your company and your customers.

Look for win-win situations when designing your website and choosing an e-Commerce platform that really suits your needs. Think carefully about what it is your customers need and what you require as a business to make that happen.

If you have an international customer base, going with a solution that provide multi-lingual capabilities would be a good choice. Perhaps your extensive product catalogue requires a robust parametric search engine so your customers can easily locate what they’re looking for. A solution that enables you to connect better with your customer and provide the best possible customer experience at every level of interaction can do more for your business than any one particular feature.

That is the ultimate reward.
