The One-Time Shopper – How to Keep Them Coming Back

Shopping IncentiveUnderstanding your customer is an important part of e-Commerce success. In tailoring your sales approach, however, there has to be a balance. We need to be flexible enough to accommodate the variety of shoppers that will come across our webshop; we want to attract as many customers as possible. We should also be strict enough in coming up with our content design and messaging. A surefire way to fail is to try and please everybody. Take an honest look at what who the audience is, both existing and potential, and create a compelling content and sales strategy accordingly.

As an e-Commerce solution provider for Microsoft Dynamics™ NAV, we look not only to our clients for inspiration but their end customers. We want to build solutions that work for both. In this article, we’re going to focus on the One Time Shoppers.

Everyone Loves a Coupon!

e-Commerce salesSometimes simple solutions are the best, and when it comes to digital marketing, coupons are a proven way of influencing sales and attracting new business. When used effectively, they can expand the market place and provide a steady stream of new customers and sales.  Coupons are measurable and can be tracked by the rate of redemption so it’s simple to review which coupon promotions have been effective as part of an overall marketing strategy.

Advanced coupons management is certainly an indication of a robust e-commerce platform. This adds further value when the setup and management of coupons seamlessly align with your ERP (MS Dynamics NAV Business Central) business process. There are many ways Nav-to-Net™, e-commerce for Dynamics NAV/BC,  coupons can be created and they can apply to either all website products or a specific set of goods like a category or single item.  Depending on the promotion you are running, the coupon can be made available for one-time use or repetitive usage, with auto expiry dates.

You managed to get the customer all the way through the hoops, they want the product, but alas, it’s out of stock. You may have lost another customer. Sometimes the “out of stock” situation is dealt with taking the customer’s order regardless. However, as not all e-Commerce solutions have reliable integration, it’s not immediately seen that the item is out of stock. This ends up disappointing the customer when orders are ultimately left unfulfilled. If you do nothing and send it to them when it comes back in stock with no communications whatsoever, you can still end up with unhappy customers because deliveries are incredibly delayed. What are ways to salvage this sale when you have “out of stock” items on your website?

Extras That Make a Difference

Hand putting check mark with green markerHow to Add Value to your E-Commerce Website

We’ve talked about how integration is the core to a successful e-Commerce solution before in The Integration Epiphany and PIVOT – E-Commerce Lessons from a Friends Episode. It’s the bare minimum of what we need to run a secure webshop, smoothly and efficiently. Information on the back-end is synchronized and shows up on the front-end with proper integration.

But now that we’ve got the basics in place, let’s talk about the rest of the features. While integration is extremely important to do well, good integration alone does not make a successful webshop.
