How URL Rewriting Impacts Your e-Commerce Webshop

Search Engine Optimization for e-Commerce and Microsoft Dynamics NAVThe technology regarding SEO (search engine optimization) is always evolving, but the fundamentals stay the same. It’s all about being found by the right customers. Without SEO, your website won’t be indexed by search spiders and you won’t rank highly (or at all) in search engine result pages. However, there is no “one and done” tactic or quick fix; we must consistently optimize multiple areas of our website. This includes clear site structure, use of keywords, and relevant content. URL rewriting is one of the tactics that we can use to improve the visibility of your website to search engines.

Why You Should Embrace Minimalism in Your eCommerce Business

ntn8 responsive design wooden desk“Less is more” is one of the mantras for minimalism, a trend that’s being currently being embraced by many. Being minimal doesn’t mean having the bare bones, however; it’s about having the right amount, whatever that amount is – it’s dependent on the person, or in this case, business!

So much of achieving e-Commerce success relies on the right message about the right product delivered at the right time to the right customer. When talking about e-Commerce solutions and minimalism, it’s really about a streamlined approach to business and making use of what you have. Elegant is a word that is used with minimalism because it’s simple but not bare or basic. It’s not clunky. In e-Commerce, it can mean an all-in-one integrated approach to the solution and in-NAV management of all website components. The result is a fresh feel and improved business agility that flows while providing an engaging experience for customers. For a business, it leaves more time and a better foundation for growing the business.

Here are some ways your business can achieve and benefit from a minimalistic approach to e-Commerce:

Web services are sometimes overlooked when researching e-Commerce solutions and features. And we get it; it’s not immediately obvious as to why it’s relevant and how you can benefit. In a nut shell, web services help devices communicate without complex and time-consuming coding to share business logic, data, and processes across a network. In e-Commerce, web services can be used from mobile applications to ERP systems like Microsoft Dynamics NAV to share access to various sales catalogs and business data. Rules and structure can be set up in the server and web services make it so applications all understand one another, resulting in improved functionality and greater efficiency.  In this customer case study snapshot, our second post in this series, we show you how this customer uses Nav-to-Net web services as a part of their B2B e-Commerce strategy.

Well-managed website search correctly identifies items the customer is looking for and meeting their expectations. Does “Out of Stock” mean Out of Luck for Customers?

customer experienceIt doesn’t have to be! This is a very frustrating situation for e-Commerce merchants or retailers of any kind. You managed to get the customer all the way through the hoops, they want the product, but alas, it’s out of stock. You may have lost another customer. Sometimes the “out of stock” situation is dealt with taking the customer’s order regardless. However, as not all e-Commerce solutions have reliable integration, it’s not immediately seen that the item is out of stock. This ends up disappointing the customer when orders are ultimately left unfulfilled. If you do nothing and send it to them when it comes back in stock with no communications whatsoever, you can still end up with unhappy customers because deliveries are incredibly delayed. What are ways to salvage this sale when you have “out of stock” items on your website?

Let’s Talk About e-Commerce Solution Security

Online security in e-CommerceWhen looking for an e-Commerce solution, we often think about how we want the website to look, sales features, and tools for simple website management. We tend to focus on how to make customers happy and how to serve them better via an e-Commerce website. These are important things to look for as your business is to serve your customers while looking out for the bottom line. What we tend to forget to think about in e-Commerce is security. Solution security is responsible for more than you realize and can affect the ideal e-Commerce experience we are all trying to achieve; both in the front end (your customers) and the back end (your business), as well as the overall brand and reputation.

We had a conversation with Brett Robins, the general manager of Digital Vantage Point, to learn more about solution security.

This or That? – Product Comparison in e-Commerce

shopping decisionsCustomers want to be sure they’re getting the right item, the best deal. How do they achieve this? By comparing their options! Part of a good shopping experience is aiding the decision making process for customers. Great content, enticing coupons, and user ratings and reviews can influence a customer to buy. But if they have to only choose one instead of the many you offer, we need to continue the efforts of improving the decision making process.
